ET Solar Provides Tracking Systems to US's Largest Solar PV Project Operating on Dual-Axis Trackers

RICHMOND, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- ET Solar Group ( http://www.etsolar.com ), in cooperation with Solar Power Partners, Inc. (SPP), announced the completion of the largest dual-axis PV tracker system in the United States. Composed of 89 ET Solar trackers spread over 5 acres, the solar power plant will generate 1.014 MW or 35% of the electricity demands of West County Wastewater District every year. ET Solar provided the tracking systems, one of the key components of the entire project configuration, and also facilitated the design of the project layout to maximize environment benefits and financial returns of this multi-million dollar investment. Amid the worst financial crisis seen in decades, the partners overcame challenges of funding, terrain complexity, and a saltwater environment to ensure the smooth completion of the largest solar plant of its kind to date in the United States.

At the WCWD brown field site, the soil is soft and difficult to work with. Most PV tracking system installations require land grading and poles to be sunk into the ground to provide stability. However, with the soft soil at the location, constructing this type of installation was almost impossible. ET Solar's dual-axis trackers that rest on concrete bases and provide needed stability while avoiding digging holes in the ground turned out to be an ideal solution to the environmental challenges of the project.

Alex von Welczeck, President and CEO of Solar Power Partners commented, "ET Solar's dual-axis tracker design was crucial in resolving the terrain installation issues. Improving the efficiency of the system by 35% was a good benefit as well."

The waste water plant land also had the issue of being near the ocean and subject to corrosive salty air. Furthermore, part of the land floods during times of heavy rain, posing a challenge to most other technologies. Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of ET Solar Group, Linhui Sui, explained, "Our trackers were a perfect fit to this project. Not only do our trackers raise the efficiency of systems by 35%, but they are also built to work in moist and harsh environments so the salty air and flooding issues do not affect the tracker's operation. We are proud to be able to offer a solution for this challenging project and we look forward to expanding our partnership with Solar Power Partners as the country continues to diversify its energy sources and reduce carbon emissions."

ET Solar Group Presents a New Tracking System with Unparalleled Wind Load

NANJING, China, Nov. 14 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- ET Solar Group Corp. ("ETSolar"), a Nanjing-based solar power solution provider and integrated manufacturer of photovoltaic products including ingots, wafers, modules, and state-of-the-art dual-axis tracking systems with manufacturing facilities located in Taizhou, China, announced the immediate availability of a new dualaxis (ET-D81) tracking system with an unparalleled wind load of 110 mph (or177 km/h). This new tracking system also comes with features specifically designed to withstand marine and desert environments.

The dual-axis tracking system maximizes power production of photovoltaic projects by orienting solar modules to be perpendicular to the sun all daylong. As a result, the modules that are mounted on the tracker can generate up to 40% more power than fixed solar panel systems, and have therefore been widely used for commercial and utility-scale solar farms.

The ET D81 tracker was developed by ET Solar on the basis of the ET D80 tracker, which has already been installed in over 60MW projects during the past five years in Europe. Recently, D80 trackers produced by ET Solar have been installed and connected to the grid in Southern California. ET Solar also supplied a total of over 1MW of D80 trackers to two projects in Northern California, and installation of these trackers is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

The D81 tracker uses the basic structural design of the D80 but has various enhanced features to meet the more challenging operating environments that include, among others, areas with gusty wind, regions with demands for more than 90 mph wind load system, and marine environments in salty air, and dusty and sandy conditions.

The D81 tracker was recently certified to withstand a 110 mph wind load, which is the highest wind load for trackers (with similar module area) currently available in the market according to public information.

The D81 tracker is controlled by an astronomical program that automatically adjusts the orientation of solar modules based on the precisely calculated position of the Sun. Each tracker has a module area of 85 m2 and can mount panels of more than 11 KWp. It is compatible with all types of standard flat solar modules. It automatically stows modules to a flat protection position when wind speed is over 43 mph.

Both D81 and D80 trackers share certain distinct advantages such as: no ground penetration, no land grading, fitting a non-rectilinear landscape, working well with hilly and bumpy terrain, and faster installation with pre-wired electrical connections installed in the factory.

Jeff Lu, Chief Technology Office of ET Solar Group, commented: "The successful development of D81 tracker once again demonstrated our strong R&D capability, persistent pursuit of product variety, and a commitment to product excellence. With our global footprint and a highly differentiated product portfolio, we are well positioned to provide total solutions to our customers."

California Water District Goes Solar with Dual-Axis Tracking Systems from ET Solar Group

NANJING, China, Sept. 25 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- ET Solar Group Corp. ("ETSolar"), a Nanjing-based solar power solution provider and integrated manufacturer of photovoltaic products including ingots, wafers, modules, and state-of-the-art dual-axis tracking systems with manufacturing facilities located in Taizhou, China, announced today that its dual-axis tracking systems have been installed and grid-connected at the Delano-Earlimart Irrigation District (DEID) in Southern California.

DEID is situated in southern Tulare County and northern Kern County along the eastside of the San Joaquin Valley in California. The DEID serves over 400 landowners on a total of 56,500 acres of land. This 22 kWp project, consisting of two ET-D80 tracking systems, is located at the DEID's headquarter and is expected to supply 95 percent of the annual energy needs of the District's headquarters.

These dual-axis tracking systems were jointly developed by ET Solar Group and Meca Solar, one of the top tracking system manufacturers in Europe. Each system has a peak power of 11 kilowatt and is controlled by an astronomical program to track the sun. With the dual-axis tracking systems, annual power output of solar systems can be up to 40% higher than fixed-array installations.

Linhui Sui, CEO of ET Solar USA, commented: "We are very delighted to launch our first tracking system project with the Delano-Earlimart Irrigation District, which represents a huge, potential market for future solar power projects in California. We believe that this first installation of dual-axis tracking systems will be the beginning of meeting the needs of those who are pursuing economic, renewable energy solutions to avoid ever rising electricity bills."

Dale Brogan, DEID General Manager, commented: " This is an exciting, cutting edge project and we are very proud to be the first to utilize the ETSolar dual-axis tracking system in the nation. This solar project represents our first step in the production of solar energy, and we are excited about the prospects of expanding the use of this technology to meet our broader energy needs in the District."

While the ET Solar dual-axis tracking systems may be new to the United States, the technology is not. Over 60 megawatts of solar projects have been installed in Europe over the past 5 years utilizing similar technology. ETSolar adapted the well-tested tracking systems to meet the North American electrical code. This DEID project is the first time ET Solar introduced such tracking systems to the American market. ET Solar also supplied solar modules to this project. The inverters are supplied by Fronius USA.
